Dear Guest,
Jambo! Habari? (Hello! How are you?) Karibu
(Welcome) to the website of the Tanzanian Consulate to
Australia.
In this website you will find continuous information on
Tanzania, a country whose political and economic landscape has
changed rapidly from the situation in the 1990s. These changes
for the better have attracted widespread interests in
Australia and elsewhere.
International interest in Tanzania has grown mainly because of
the unique history of peace and stability but also due to the
abundant natural resources, the wide unspoiled natural habitat
with rich flora and fauna, the paleontological and
archaeological sites containing significant evidence of being
the birthplace of mankind, the friendliness of its people and
richness of their culture and artistic talents.
Many Australians are attracted by the wilderness experience
characteristic of Tanzania Safari to Mount Kilimanjaro,
Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater National Parks in northern
Tanzania and the Selous Game Reserve, Ruaha and Udzungwa
Mountain Parks in southern Tanzania. For beach lovers, the
Spice Island of Zanzibar, Mafia Island, Saadani National Park
etc. are among the best resort destinations where sea spots
and scuba diving is a good pastime activity.
The many Australian mining companies operating in Tanzania and
the ever -increasing number of Australia tourists is evidence
of a welcome upsurge of interest in Tanzania. The Australian
mining company, Resolute Gold, opened the first gold mine in
Tanzania in 1998. The Tanzania gold rush followed with Barrick
Gold of Canada, Placer Dome, Ashanti, Anglogold and Pangea
quickly appearing in the scene assisted by the well-equipped
Geological Library located in Dodoma, central Tanzania, and
four warehouses with chip and core from over 1,000 geological
and exploration projects. There are also rich deposits of
diamonds, tin, tungsten, carbonates, coal, iron ore, uranium,
nickel, platinum group metals (PGM) and gemstones. The
Goldstream Mining Company from Australia is one such company
prospecting for PGM in Tanzania.
The Tanzania High Commission has archives of current
information regarding opportunities to trade and invest in
Tanzania to take advantage of low to zero tariff access to
markets of Europe, United States, Japan and Eastern and
Southern Africa free trade area. Interested parties are
welcome to benefit from the business attractions in mining,
tourism, agriculture and in infrastructure development where
many foreign businesses are already making handsome profits.
Australian traditional strengths in these sectors give
Australian businesses a comparative advantage. Interestingly,
geologists working in Tanzania have observed also that the
geology of Tanzania is very similar to Australia. That is not
surprising as both countries were once a part of Gondwanaland
and shared a common coastline. Striking similarities between
Australia's Northwest shelf and offshore Tanzania has also
been established. This has attracted some Australian companies
to acquire exploration blocks for oil and gas in Tanzania
where they find the seismic data collected very exciting.
Asante sana. (Thank you very much)
